I have tried the Big Dean small pry bar through the filler hole multiple times, as prescribed and still can"t get my tractor un-stuck. I am putting it right behind that big gear and pulling hard. I even put a piece of cheater pipe on that to get more leverage still no dice. How hard did you guys have to pull to get it unstuck. I also read someone said take the pin out of the chifter lever and lift it back into place, I tried that, and the was pointless from what I could see. If you have any tips on using the big dean method, please share, cause so far it ain"t working out for me.

Its fixed.... in reply to lrellis, 06-12-2007 07:05:57
I had the tractor parked on a very slight slope, and the gears must have been bound up. It was VERY easy once i put the tractor on a more level surface.

Thanks for giving us feedback it helps us and others to gain knowledge and experience to figure different
problems and solutions.

I use MF"S for serveral years and when they have a little worn they have tendency to lockup in reverse or 2ND most of the time. We developped the habit to not pull up the shifter when shifting...just light
down pressure on the stick. I did"nt locked up shifters for many years on my tractors...but
..most of the time my son or others drive the tractors they lock the trans in reverse.

In my case, very little effort was required, I would suggest not using force, but that is my uneducated opinion. I am not mechanically inclined but have done the procedure three times and it is really easy. You might wait on a comment from Big Dean, or DavidP from South Wales. Not that they are the only Massey experts, just the first two to come to mind.

Are you trying to move the actual gears or the gearshift lever? You should be able to stick a long screw driver through the filler hole and manipulate the gearshift lever where it sets in the railing.

I initially tried to pry against the gear, then i tried prying against the back of the lever. Its stuch in reverse, so I am prying it forward. The gear shift lever ball is sitting inside the little square place, with what looks like the slide rail all the way closing the "box" the shift lever ball rest inside of. It this something that just requries BRUTE force. or should it be rather easy?

Hi

It should be rather very easy...it may be tension on the
gears if tractor is parked in a slight slope...
to release tension rock the tractor back and forth
and put the little lever (S-N-H) in neutral position
is there someting attatched to the pto shaft just
unhook it it may help pressing the clutch pedal while trying to move the gear. You may already have done these actions.....If its locked in reverse the big gear shd be pushed in forward direction.

I suggest to not apply force on it you may damage trans shifter components.

Hi, I would agree with Joe, Tie or block the clutch pedal in the down position. Make sure there is no load in the transmission and try again stating gently. Make sure that the diff pedal is not engaged. As suggested, try having an assistant rocking the tractor while you try to free it.
