I am used to Fords, but I am looking at buying a 135. The pto selector lever has three settings on it: off, and then two others (Trans?, ground?). In any event, the clutch feels like a typical two stage clutch so when you depress it half way it gets harder to push down (as if releasing the pto clutch). However, can someone explain the settings for the pto lever? I could not seem to make the pto stop spinning when the clutch was depressed all the way down. On my Ford, when the pto is engaged, if the clutch is half depressed the transmission clutch is released but the pto keeps spinning, but if fully depressed the pto also stops. I can not seem to make the 135 do that? What am I doing wrong? The 135 is otherwise in good shape. Thanks.

Robil...not all the MF135's had a dual clutch. The "Special" had a single clutch it also did not have a tach/hourmeter so the dash looked a little different. The Vinyard model (narrow) had Independent PTO(hydraulic). Do not to be confused by the PTO lever if you are used to a Ford you only need the 'Engine' position on the lever... Gary

It is a clutch adjustment issue. The adjustment is made through the inspection plate under the clutch housing. There are 3 adjustment bolts you need 2 very good fitting 1/2" AF spanners to adjust the clearence, I always use the tractors ignition key as a feeler gauge, another popular gauge is the thickness of 2 hacksaw blades with the teeth ground off! If that dont work the plate may be just stuck to the flywheel.

if tractor has been sitting a long time, clutch disc might have rusted to opposing surfaces or might be rough enuf to not dis-engage under no load

hook a bush hog on and start chopping, then see if PTO shaft keeps turning under load when clutch is pushed all the way down

135 is good machine

on my 135 the pto doesn't stop when the clutch is pressed either. so I don't know about that. the pto settings of course the middle is pto disengaged, pushed forward the pto turns with the rear wheels for a slow pto speed, pulled back it works off of engine rpm ie. bushogging. i hope it helps. these other guys on here are good and they may be able to explain it better than me.

So, if the lever is pushed back from the center position, that should be a typical live pto operation where the pto should disengage if the clutch pedal is pushed all the way down?

He says that he almost never used the pto so the pto clutch could be stuck to the flywheel.

Thanks for the help.

yes it technicaly should, but mine doesn't disengage either. I think mine is just an adjustment issue, but I've learned to get use to it.

Yes, it very likely IS an adjustment issue, and a relatively easy adjustment to make (unless your clutch is totally gone). Get Big Dean's info on it, do it - takes about 15 mins - and you will have a safer machine which is also easier to operate.
