Some of the older Perkins used a cork gasket at the rear of the oil pan. Newer models used a synthetic gasket. They go bad. When they do, you get exactly the situation you described with oil dripping from those weep holes. The older cork gasket has been made obsolete by Massey Ferguson/AGCO/Perkins. Massey Parts manual will show a serial # "split" where the different gaskets change.

I've replaced the pan gasket set in my MF150, and in 3 other Perkins/Masseys. All 4 leaked quite a bit at one point. All 4 didn't leak a drop after the gasket change. From what I gather, about 1 in 20 leakers will be the rear main seal. That requires splitting the tractor and removing clutch/flywheel to fix.

Hi,
There should be a cotter pin at the bottom of the engine backplate as well as one in the well in the clutch housing. Yes, the oil will certainly leak from the backplate pin. It is worth turning it occasionally to ensure that any oil inside will drain. The leak occurs at the rear sump (oil pan) seal when the cork joint shrinks or splits.
It is a straight forward job to renew the seals but make sure you have the tractor well supported under the belly plate.

Hi Tim,
No tricks, but it is very important to make sure that the rear and front corks are fitted correctly using a small flat screwdriver to ease them into place. Make sure that there are no gaps at the ends and make sure the oil pan (sump) goes up square when you refit it. A trolley jack is best.
