My 165 has a problem. When I have something hooked to the 3 pt hitch it leaks down. This happens when the tractor is running. I expect this when the tractor is not running. Any idea what the problem is and how hard would it be to fix it. Would it have to be split.
Thanks

Have perhaps a similar problem with a mid 60's MF serial number 9A-62439 with a Perkins AD3-152, not sure of tractor model, has a MF 200 front end loader, shuttle type trans. Three Point worked when test drove, but after ride home on trailer, three point will not lift, front loader still works. Fluid level is high if anything. Suggestions on where to start are welcome.

You've already got Big Dean on the case, so I'm sorta the minor league trying to help, but here goes. When your lift drifts down, is the position control lever drifting down with it? If so, there's the problem. Tighten the tension spring (screw w/spring that is 1/2-way down the lever) They get loose, allowing lift control lever to move. I've hed them where you couldn't keep lift at constant height to save itself. Tighten screw a couple turns and you're good to go. I maybe over-simplifying the problem....maybe not.

Hi Devin Do you have a remote valve on the lifr cover in front of the seat and when you have it switched to remotes the lift is drifting down. If it is this then it is probably the lift piston leaking ao the valve is bad. I have never saw one drift down when running except when the pto clutch is release. I am just digging for something that will cause that problem

I dont think it leaks when I have something hooked to the aux hyd. It just leaks down when something is hooked up to the 3 pt hitch. Both the draft and controls for the 3 pth are raised to their up position.

Devin do you use a valve on the liftcover just in front of the seat? If you do when it is switched to the remote position you isolate the oil from the lift cylinder from the reat of the system and there is no way for the oil to get out of the cylinder for it to lower the lift arms unless the lift cylinder piston is leaking or the remote valve is letting the oil leak past the spool which is pretty rare.

Big Dean,
yes i use the lever in front of the seat for hyd. The original up and down lever for 3 pth does not work anymore with the aux hyd. The draft control still works I think.
Thanks for your replies.

Are you using a valve with just one lever on it or two levers? Big Dean

I use both levers. One is for the aux hyd such as for a disc andthe other lever for my 3 pth.

Ok that is what I needed to know. When the left lever is in the center position is that when your lift is drifting down if so we are back to the lift cylinder leaking off.

Big Dean,
Yes it leaks down when it is in the middle position.
Also thanks for all your help from me and eveyone else who has used your knowledge and advice.
My 165 was stuck in reverse last week and following your website I fixed ti very quickly. Last time it happened I took the top off the case and had to remove all the other stuff to fix it.

Devin if you will drain the oil down below the bottom bolt on the access plate with the response lever and the dipstick in it then remove that access plate you can see if oil is leaking down from the top if it is then it is the lIft cylinder causing your problem

Dean , As you all already know my knowledge is minus 100 out of 10 . However THANKS to the help from all of you's guys , especially David I was able to fix my hydraulic problems with my 1975 MF 165 by draining the common-sump oil and cleaning out the filter ( which hadn't been done for 30 years & changing the oil/hydraulic fluid to the right viscosity product . Might this be Devins problem or part of it ? I'm not trying to get to smart here or ' out-of-my-box ' just trying to share ! james in Auzzie-land Good luck Devin !
