I have a 1963 MF-35 thats makes a knocking sound from the center section when there is a load on the 3 point. The sound increases when the load increases.Am I looking at worn pistons in the pump?I cannont see any bad bearings and there is no material in the oil. Many thanks,Dan

Hello Dan,
On the outside of the casing you will see a diamond shaped plate on each side. These are the dowels that hold the Ferguson pump in place. If these or the holes that they fit into in the pump body are worn or in extreme cases broken, this can cause a nasty 'knocking'. Knocking from the pistons is unlikely. More possible is the failure of one on the phosphor bronze yokes on the shaft but this is rare.

Hey,thanks very much for your help.I probably never would have looked at those pins.
Last thing, how in heck do you get the pump out.I have done everything the manual says to do and then some, and it still won"t come out.Just not enough room.I can"t see anything else to do except split the center section from the trans to allow the shaft to clear the front coupler. Thanks again,Dan

Hello Dan,
Is your tractor a Multi-Power? There are very few MP 35s in the UK and I have never removed the pump on one...plenty of 135s upwards though.
If yours is a MP then you will almost certainly need to split it between the gearbox and centre housing.
If not, I assume that you have removed the drive shaft and collar etc. Normally when the pump dowels are removed the pump can be moved forwards a little. This will allow the rear to drop. Move it rearwards to clear the front. Lift the pump up and turn it to remove through the top opening.

Hi Dave,
I finally got it out.I removed one bolt on the rear of the pump body which gave me enough room to move back.I then saw what I did wrong,I remove the forward coupler from the pump and slid it forward on the counter shaft. If I had not done that,it would have cleared. Thanks again for all your help,Dan
