I recently bought a Massey 165. I've searched to try to find out how to read the serial number but for some reason I can't find what mine really is. The serial number is: 9a 92157

Any help appreciated. It is in good shape I am just trying to find out for sure what I really bought. I was told the the Perkins diesel was a 65 hp but everyone says MF never built a 165 Chris

patty melt ???, not quite sure what info your lookin' for, Model # 200 and serial # 4535 relate to the loader, your tractor ser# UGF655001614 comes up as a 1963 model, UGF translates to U=utiliy, G=gas, F=single stage clutch. Should have the 4cyl 33hp Z134 Continental engine and should have the manual shuttle shift or instant reverse transmission with aux. foot throttle. Apart from the Yellow paint they are the same as the MF35 from the trans. back, the front end is "beefed" up to accept a loader with HD non adjustable front axle and PS. It may or may not have 3pt hitch and PTO. HTH.
Regards, JJ.

A MF 165 with SER# 9A 92157 comes up as a 1970 model and should have the 65hp AD4.212 engine

I was looking this weekend and found the tag on the engine. It is a Perkins AD4.203 Does that mean the engine has been replaced?

No i wouldn't think the engine has been replaced. The confusion here is the overlapping models and where and when they where built. The records show as 1965-1971 with the AD4.203 , then show 1968-1979 updated ones with the AD4.212, i should have stated this. JJ.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. May I ask where you found out how to read the Serial number? I still haven"t found a site for it yet and would like to know how to read them for future reference.

( ser # 136730 ) - 4 cyl 4A-212 Perkins diesel 2x4 c/w Pressure control but no Milti-shift . Have a 2 mtr wide slasher c/w heavy-duty gear box and also a chisel plough come 4 other sets of teeth ( all interchangeable ) . As We have a very hilly & gullies type of damp Tropical rainforest block - I'm still trying different combinations of - water-in-tires & front weights in order to have good traction & keep the front wheels on the ground . It's nice of them to wave back at me but I'd rather they stayed on the ground c/w some good traction so I can go where I'm trying get to . It's all good fun but a very steep learning curve for a 1st timer & I can't find a ROPS that is strong enough for a tractor of this weight . I'll keep reading all of everyone's great advise & - & Thanks you all . james jackson in Australia ( ex West Van BC in the '40's to '60'ies . Ciao-for-now jj in Auzzie-land
