I recently bought a MF 35 and discovered it doesnot have an air filter element in it. My local NAPA dealer says he might be able to find me an airfilter if i can get him a MF part number to cross reference it. Does anone know the correct MF part number? it is for a 4 cylinder gas continental engine.

thanks

When I worked at a Massey dealer in the '60s, we replaced the oil bath unit with a new Donaldson that was original on the 2135, 202, and 203. If you do get a filter from NAPA (or WIX) be sure to check the rubber seal on the open end. They have changed the design and it may not seal in your old canister. I had to put a layer of black silicone on my new filter in order to make it seal properly. To do that, put a layer of Saran Wrap against the metal of the can so the silicone won't stick. After it dries, take the Saran Wrap out..

Okay, after your help and more research i think i got it. The oil bath air cleaners i was used to were from automobiles where you had an oil bath and a foam air filter material.

As near as i can tell, there is supposed to be a metal screen of some type in my air cleaner. It is not there, i assume this is designed to keep larger material out? Do i need it? should i get an aftermarket setup if i don't have the screen? My tractor has been used, and has various pieces that are not original so i am not concerned about keeping it exactly original, just want to keep the dirt out of my engine, which runs VERY smooth with NO smoke. (currently).

I have manuals for my tractor, but my manual is for a diesel, and i have a supplimental one for the z134 engine. So it talks about servicing the diesel air cleaner, and i have instructions for maintaing the gas engine, but no picture or details about the air cleaner on the gas engine.

Got:

If you have the original rectangular oil bath air cleaner that came with your 35 and not a round dry air cleaner from a 135 (like one of my 35s does) then yes, indeed, it should have a wraped wire mesh filter media surrounding the center draw tube and you DO need it. Without it you have very little filtering effect.

The wire mesh is available from several sources but I cannot post the suppliers on this forum.

Search for Ford (or Ferguson) air cleaner (or filter) mesh (or screen or media) and you should find it.

Mine is an oil bath, but it is round. Do the round ones have mesh in them as well?

Thanks to everyone for the replies.

Got:

Yes. If it is mounted vertically it is an oil bath and needs the wire mesh whether it is round or rectangular.

Hi, The MF 35 whether gas or diesel did not come
from the factory with an air filter, but with an
oil bath air cleaner. Unless someone has updated
from a 135 you will not need one. Chuck
