Hi, Some other tips and suggestions. For one, do
not slip the PTO as you will warp the discs and
then the PTO won't shut off. The PTO and P.S. are
powered by a pump located in the right hand side
of the lower part of trans.case, held on by 5 ?
cap screws. If your pump is original it will have
a short screen on the lower side. If the pump has
been replaced it will have a screen on an extended
pipe to place it lower in the oil so it won't cav-
itate on a sidehill. These screens can get very
plugged with brass and metal shavings and muck.
Check this immediately(very easy-except you will
have to drain some oil or put on sidehill) Also a
filter in a cast filter body up by radiator. Also
if you get down to more serious and pressure check
the relief valve that is in the clutch housing-A
MF serv.manual say's to raise the circuit press
from the 215 psi in orig.man to 245 psi by adding
a .150 thick spacer under the spring in relief
valve. Good luck, Chuck

These tractors were notorious for PTO clutch packs slipping and then needing to rebuild them. The dump valve is inside the clutch housing and is difficult to see from the inspection plate hole. I don't remember, but there shold be 1/2 to 3/4 inch travel of the dump valve fork before releasing pressure, if more could be stuck and may be able to "coax" it back with a pry bar but I suspect this not to be the real problen. Control valve is inside the housing and is best inspceted when rebuilding clutch pack. May not be good news, but that is what history on these units tell us.
