I am finding conflicting data on the rated hp for a 165 Diesel S/N 9A18140 (should be a 1967 model). The exhaust manifold is on the left side of the engine (if looking from seat). Other postings indicate this is a Perkins AD4-203. Is there any consensous or best settled w/ a PTO dyno. The seller, according to his book, thinks it is a 65 hp tractor. I found ratings ranging from 48 PTO to 60 hp (unspecified if measured at the PTO, drawbar or crankshaft).

I'd like to see a 58 to 60 hp 165 from the factory. As Dean mentioned, 52 is what they are listed at, though I've yet to see one have that much. Ours (1967 model) shows 47 on the dyno. Of course it was used on the farm for almost 30 years. Good tractors, though I rarely see one with working multi-power.

Rusty - Exactly where the heck did you find the Serial # on your 165 . Can't find any # that looks like it's a Serial # . I've established that it is a MF 165 4A-212-4cyl Perkins diesel 2x4 drive c/w , 1st , 2nd ,3rd , 4th & reverse with Low & Hi range . Has lots of #'s everywhere but none of them make any sense. # on the tag on the dash is 165 136730 with MH under that - all on a little alloy compliance tag . I think ( not at all sure ) that it's a 1976 due to the grill & front lights . Someone might be able to help . tnxJames in Auzzie-land . Thanks all !!!

Look below the steering wheel/dash down near the tranny housing. It should be on a little silver plate.

I think some of the conflicting data is the engine used.

Ours has the Continental gas, and from my understanding they were rated to put out about 48 PTO HP. A deisel of the same year will put out about 52, and the perkins gassers were supposed to keep close to the same figures as the deisel. I wouldn't doubt a 165 deisel could do 65, but it might have been tweeked a little bit to get there, or that's engine HP and not PTO or Drawbar.

The MF165 is rated at 52 HP the Nebraska test is 52.44 PTO HP and Drawbar HP is 44.9 that serial is for a tractor built in 1967. The US built MF165 did use the AD4-203 Perkins diesel engine.

Hello everyone,
Interestingly the figures given in the UK for the AD4.203 engine fitted to the 165 up to late 1967 is 58HP and 60HP from then onwards fitted with the AD4.212 engine.

Regards
