I am looking at a 1967 MF 165 w/ MF loader (Perkins w/multispeed and independant PTO). The loader will only lift if the 3-pt is in the up position. Is this normal of an indicator of a problem or is it normal?

If the 3ph. has to be lifted all the way up then it is normal. If you have to have the 3ph. up then it means that the hydraulics are working off the main pump witch also runs the 3ph. If the hydraulics start fading then it is a sign of a worn out pump. Bird Man

There are a number of different ways to plumb the hydraulics for a loader. Knowing which method was used would help to determine if this is normal or not.

If the loader runs off of the 3 pt. pump, the position control needs to be pulled all the way back and then pushed past the stop even further into constant pumping position. The draft control also has to be pushed back all the way. Dave

Hi,
When the lever is set in the maximum POSITION CONTROL 'UP' setting the pump is returned to the neutral position. When you select 'CONSTANT PUMPING' the pump is moved to 'output' giving you an oil supply.
