I've got a MF35 with a Standard Diesel and I'm having trouble getting the engine to catch. The battery has tests good, it's getting plenty of fuel at the injectors, and it turns over well for a few seconds before slowing down. I've gotten it going when hooked up to a 30 amp battery charger, but not when jumped from my MF65. I can get it rolling and going by popping the clutch no problem.

Can I test the starter without taking it off? Any other possibilities for trouble spots?

Always start by cleaning your battery posts and starter relay posts. Then undo and re tighten all electrical connections. You"d be surprised how many times this has worked for me. Especially true when the tractor isn"t used frequently and sits outside. If you"re not getting it started by jumping it, turn the key on, try applying your positive jumper cable to the pos. starter post and the neg cable to the bolt that holds the starter on. You are by-passing the starter relay. If it turns over like normal, you;ve found the problem. Otherwise, remove the starter clean or replace the brushes, and clean the commutator and the armature. Removing a little rust will help a bunch.

Did you do a load test on the battery or just a voltage reading? I've found quite often that a bad battery will show good voltage until put under load. A battery is way cheaper than a starter.
