It sounds like the center broke out of the clucth.I would double check the linkage to make sure it is ok down to the trans. Then split it between the trans and engine to check the clutch. If the clutch is not the problem then it almost has to be the splines on the shafts at the trans and center housing. If it is the shafts you would have had to split it between the engine and trans anyway, because you need to raplace a shaft in the trans and one in the center housing.

The gears do not grind when moved between gears, I can shift between gears without stepping clutch in.

Check your gear shift linkage to be sure it is all ok. I would suspect that the problem is the splines on the shafts where the trans connects to the rear housing wore out. To fix you will need to split the tractor in two places. One between engine & trans and between the trans & center housing. There is a coupler inside those shafts that run the PTO & hyd that I would also replace.

Need A little more info. Do the gears at least grind when you shift? Does park work?
