Attempting to do a Tranny/Hydraulic flush and change, removed 2 drain plugs and removed what I presume to be fill plug (top left side of tranny when sitting on tractor) only to find fluid at top of fill hole and actually some came out of hole. Why is it holding fluid? If it matters system has aux. add on hydraulic controls for rear remote hookups. And strangely the three point only works off of aux. lever which is not plumbed to rear!!! Position and draft levers don't seem to control anything. HELP!!!

Hey Gerald, just reread your post, like I said I'll try the levers out again, but I know that the left aux. lever lowers when pushed forward and raises when pulled back. Does this change the operation of any of the other functions? Thanks again.

That's the way mine works. Move the lever in the direction the PTO is to move. I may get confused from the way the two auxiliaries run the planter this week.

Thanks for the reply guys, I did finally figure out where the fill plug was, directly left of the shift lever, the nut shape on top had been all but rounded off and the casting was so smooth where the plug met the housing it didn't appear to be removable. It definately wasn't over full though, the book claims it holds 8 gal. and two five gal. buckets used I'd guess I only drained around 6 out.Removed the filter screen and cleaned it, pretty dirty but not alot of sludge in bottom, then put in 5 gal., diesel and ran for 10 min. at idle, raised and lowered three point several times and drained. The plug I'd pulled out was on top of lift cover left side with an allen bolt directly below it on side of cover which threaded into same channel as plug. Thanks for the info and I'll check the lift operation with the levers positioned as you said.

Hi DL,
It sounds like the plug you are referring to is the horizontal one in the in the rear centre casing. If so, it is not a filler plug. The transmission is filled through the plug to the left of the gearlever. I believe that this tapping is used when a speedometer is fitted.
If you have oil coming out here you have a serious overfill problem. If your 165 has dry brakes oil may have got past the seals onto the discs.. The oil level should be around the level of the bottom bolt on the round side covers.
Is it all oil or could there be water underneath the oil. Whichever, get it out as quickly as possible!!!!!This may account for the quadrant levers not doing anything. Replace with fresh oil to the correct level and see what is working.
Cheers

That's too full anytime, way too full after draining. You should get several gallons out of the drains. Poke a wire up the drains to break through the sludge to allow more oil to drain out. There probably are two drain plugs, my I&T manual didn't jump that detail out to me and there are two on my MF-135.

As for the auxiliary hydraulic cover. That left lever does run the three point when the original three point levers are both up. Its also a function valve to switch the hydraulic power from the original three point to the auxiliary valves to the right on that cover. You can't change the three point position and the auxiliary at the same time. That left lever has three positions. Forward it raises the three point (so long as the pump is pumping with the original three point levers at the top), back it lowers the three point. Mid it reroutes oil to the auxiliary valves. Forward it latches and then the original draft and position levers work.

Those original levers work by controlling the pump so the auxiliaries won't work unless the original levers are full up in the constant pumping position.

You need the operator's manual for those auxiliary valves, MF part number 690 562 M3 and I think you may the same valve I have 19 833 A92 with parts illustrated in 651 258 M96.
