What oil do I put in my transmission of my massey? And how do I flush out the gear box if there been a little water in oil.

I figure a Massey as a Massey Harris. The trans and differential both use same oil, have a divider between and two fill and two drain, but may splash back and forth. According to my MH22 manual:Fill trans via filler plug on top front of trans.Oil level plug is on left side. 22 takes 2 gal of 140wt. In winter, drain and fill with 90 weight. Change oil twice a year. To flush in spring, drain oil and fill with kerosene and run a few minutes. Differential fills top side near right rear corner ( I had to remove my seat support and it takes the drive part of a 1/2 inch ratchet) 4 gallons of oil to fill differential. Level plug is in center of rear end housing at back of tractor near PTO. Drain plug is towards the back. Same twice yearly draining-90 in winter, 140 in spring with the kerosene flush. I, however, only use my 22 for planting/cultivating 1 acre of corn, wagon rides, and parades with some snow blading so I use 88-140 oil and change 5-10 years and it looks good inside. I have had it since 1976. With its new paint job, it looks like new, starts on first try and purrs like a kitten. The 34 inch rear tires tend to out pull an 8N with all its tall tire traction.

Hey there G-Rip - Try scrolling down 9 headings past yours and read all the supa-great help I'm getting especially from David P & Aaron Ford . Without them I may well have totally wrecked my whole unit . By-the-way - don't forget to clean-out your filter - mine was chokkers full . It was recommended by Castrol that I use AGRI - MP - Plus & that it would be ideal for many modles & years of several makes of tractors .Try phoning your local Tractor dealer & also your local Oil supply Co , they sure helped me out . Hope this helps you out . Ciao-for-now , James from down-under Good-luck !!

If it is a Massey Ferguson, I believe all first and second generations are using Permatran. My local dealer (Rexroad) tuned me in to this. Most folks run diesel fuel in 'em under no load till it warms up, then drain and refill with your gear oil.

HTH

Aaron
