Hi all . New to this site . Thanks so much for all your posted assistance from/to everyone . Vertical learning curve at this end . Have MF 4A-212 , 4 cyl Prekins diesel . Took off bottom dished -3 bolt plug c/w 1" heavy jelly sludge and can feel with my finger ( ha ) that there's still lots more in there . How do I get it all out ? Fill trans/gear box with diesel & run tractor with slasher for 5 or 10 minutes ? Or what ???
To 300 Winchester - 3 musts here Get a manual or all 3 - Work-shop , Service & Operators -- cheaper than wrecking the tractor by far . Also always read every word of this site for years & years - it's the best thing since sliced-bread & corn flakes . Ask before wrecking tractor someone will help !!
Thanks of everyone in here for helping me with all your knowledge . Saved me 1000's & 1000's of dollars . YOUR ALL BEAUT - MATE & can come to our barbie every Sat avo , James - Tropical Rainforest Far North Queensland , Australia

Hello from 'old' South Wales,
By all means drain what oil you can and put some diesel in the transmission but do not run it.
Remove the right hand side cover and inspect the inside. If there is that much debris inside it might be better to remove the hydraulic cover and pump and clean out as much as you can by hand.
If you have an IPTO fitted you will not be able to remove the pump without splitting the tractor.
Try to wash any debris out of the drain hole with a pressure washer if you have one and give it plenty of time to dry out.
How did the debris get in there in the first place?
Regards
DavidP, South Wales

David P & Aaron - Thanks so much . Rather difficult at this end when I don't know very much at all . Sure have been sweating on your replies . I have removed the ss filter out through the bottom inspection port and cleaned it up . Was worried that the sludge still left in the bottom would pick-up & circulate in the new oil when I put it all back together . I'm led to understand that the sludge will stay undisturbed in the bottom . So I'll put it all back together , fill it up with Castrol AGRI - MP - Plus ( which has been recommended ) & give it a go & not put any diesel in it nor wash it out at this time . I'll do it all over again if the new oil gets dirty & clean the filter again . David - yes I do have both compressors & high-pressure water blasters here in my workshop on the property . Have no idea how all that much got in there . Most probably none of this has ever been cleaned-out before in 30 years or since new ( still can't find the serial # to date the machine ) Once again thanks chaps for all you priceless help .Couldn't have managed to even start this without you all . I'll make a point of watching for any further info & I'll report in as to my eventual resolution of this problem . Ciao-for-now James In Auzzie land - just ( 2000 k's ) north of " New South Wales - Auzz of course . Thanks all , jj

Hello James,
OK, we know now that the tractor has an inspection/filter removal plate underneath. Something you might like to consider would be instead of putting fresh oil in at this stage put engine flushing oil in instead. It retains its lubrication properties so driving around for a couple of hours would not do any damage.
Whether the sludge will remain depends on the consistency of it. There is quite a lot of oil circulation when the gearbox and pump is in ful motion. My feeling would be to remove as much as possible. If you do this remove the plate and dump the oil as quickly as possible. Don't forget to drain from the underside of the gearbox as well.
Good luck
DavidP

THANKS - yet again - David P & Aaron . Don't ever remember hearing of ' engine flushing oil ' but I'll look into it when the shops are open . Older isn't necessarily smarter - at least for me !! It's Sunday here & it's also Mother's Day so I'm not driving 100 ks , spending 4 hours going to town & back just to find that the store is shut . So I'll try cleaning-out what I can reach & air-blow out & then add some diesel & run the tractor without moving it ( ie - not under load ) ?? Yes , I did remember to drain from both bottom drains ( g/box & trans. areas ) . I'll be darned if I can see any kind of cover on either side of the trans or g'box to be able to remove , even though everytime you chaps have mentioned it , I have gone out & had another look . Thanks again guys . How does all-that sound ?? Thank goodness it's a nice 22* c @ 0830 hrs day here & not freezing cold and frozen ground . Ciao-for-now , Back again when I get stuck , James from down-under .

I do not think you are supposed to put a load on the tractor while the diesel is in the gearbox. Think you are supposed to warm it up, but not load it. HTH

Cheers,
Aaron
