I am having trouble with the hydraulics maintaining pressure after running tractor awhile, it is a MF 1105.

I changed the hyd. fluid filter, but that did not seem to help. I am thinking that the screen might be clogged-up.

My questions is this: Can the plate be dropped off from the bottom of the tractor to access the screen without dumping all the hydraulic fluid. It sure looks clean and I really don't want to change 20+ gallons if I don't need to.

Thanks for any help!!

Before you change your oil I would check the oil pressure coming out of the remote hyd coupler. It should be around 2400lbs.Check it cold, then again when the oil is hot.I'm guessing that your relief valve in the main pump up front is bad.If you have to change the charge pump it should only take about 2 hrs from start to finish.A pump from Massey is $1300.

It sounds like your problem is the charge pump. We just sold one with a charge pump failure. The brakes, mulitpower and steering would fail after about 5 minutes of running. I seemed like the oil warmed up and it would just quit. I had already pulled the screen under the tranny and changed out the filter up front. There was some glittery shavings in the rear, but after 30 years, one should expect some. The front filter is a 5 micron filter. The dealer that bought the tractor confirmed my thought of the charge pump under the platform. The pump is around 800 bucks and about 7 hours to replace. On ours, the 3 point failed all together.

Try the screen anyway. I have seen them plugged with metal shavings that were indicative of a much larger problem, mostly broken planetaries that started grinding to bits. If you find something like that, now is better than later to find it. Good luck, keep us posted.

First I've had allot of serious hydraulic problems on 1000 series Masseys but none of them have ever been caused by a plugged intake screen, it dosn't seem possible. Second if it's been over 2 years since you've changed the hydraulic fluid, change it now. The fluid can look good but it has the ability to retain water in it, which you will not be able to see. Third you cannot pull the plate on the bottom without draining the fluid, you'll also get about 5 gallon out of the rear end as well. Replace with high quality hy/tran oil. change the filter too.

OK i will change the fluid, but are you saying that the fluid can hold water and NOT look milky white? It currently looks very similar to fluid from a new bucket. I believe that the fluid was changed by the dealer when I bought it in Dec. '05.

Would you consider the New Holland "multi-gard 134" acceptable to put in a MF1105? that is what I use in my JD and my Ford and I would like to keep the same in all.

Also, I noticed the bolt directly under the rear end yesterday, does this have Hydraulic fluid in it? and then the next question is: will it refill from the main Hyd. fill port or does the rear end have its own fill port?

THEN if the fluid change make NO difference what was the fix to the problems you have encountered.

This tractor seems to have slow hydraulics right from the start but seem to get much slower and weaker the longer it runs. After an hour or two of mowing hay it will barely lift up the disc mower.

If I can get a good idea on what the problem is I definately want to fix it.

As always thanks for your help!
