I'm looking for a MF 165 and hear the later year models may have wet brakes. Is this true? Do the wet brake tractors always have the square axles and notches in plates between rear and axle? I need good brakes on my hilly fields, and heard the dry brakes can be problematic and wet brakes are much better. Can anyone out there confirm the 165 came with wet brakes and how to know this when looking at a 165? thanks

You can convert the later model square axle 165 to wet brakes I did this to my 135 Orchard Special last year the wet brakes were from a MF265. I would like to do this conversion to my MF40 loader tractor. It makes quite a difference. You can also get a kit from the other website that we can not link to. Gary

Hi, All 165's had the dry brakes. The early 165's had
what they called the malleable axle housing and
the later called Cast axle housing had different
brakes and the squared off housing but not the
wet brakes. The 265 series started out with the
Cast dry brakes but soon changed over to the wet
brakes. I just double checked these facts in the
parts books. Good luck, Chuck
