I have found a Davis loader for my MF-50 and would like to know the best way to power it.
Can I use the onboard hydraulic system? if so will the three point still work?
Any help and pictures would be great.
Thanks

Hi

I have a MF-50 with model MF-99 loader (Davis)
with a front pump. Effectively left turns are restricted by the steering arm hitting the pump shaft...but it is not a big problem I know now to not turn at maximum to the left.

Yes it is possible to use the inboard hydraulic pump if you use the loader for little jobs here and there it will be OK. Years ago we had a MF-65 and used internal pump and used it to load manure in spreader and it was fast enough. You will develop operator skills and operate the loader up and down while tractors travels point to point.

If you have power steering on your 50 it will be comfortable if not it is preferable to have 6.50/16 front tires with agricultural 3 rib tires because it will be easyer to steer because only the big central rib normaly touch the ground with little surface. In soft terrain it will be near impossible to steer with loaded bucket.

To use internal pump you will need a diverter valve then you will choose between loader or rear lift. When you put the valve for loader the rear lift will stop working and stay were it was and vice-versa for the loader. There were different diverter valves manufacturers and configuration. I recently bough one new (NOS)to operate my backhoe on my MF-35 at a tractor boneyard I asked for a used one but the gentlemen informed me that they still have aftermarket new units $ 110.00.
The diverter valve is normally installed on top of the hydraulic cover in place of the 2 screw mounted plate.

My 2

There is a major problem with a front pump setup
on a 50 or 65. Have some one turn the wheel as
you look thru the hole in front where the shaft
that drives the pump would go. When turning left
the steering arm goes right past the hole so you
can't turn left hardly at all. MF had a kit to
update the steering arm etc to similar to a 150
but it was expensive then and probably not even
avail now. Poss a small chance that it has the arm already changed over. Chuck

Yes and sort of. The best way to power your loader is with a front mounted pump. Does your loader have a resevoir in the upright? The 3 pt. hydraulics will work but will be slow. The 3 pt. can be used but not at the same time as the loader. If you don't have aux. hydraulics you need a selector valve. I'm not sure how easy it is to get one. Dave
