No really I love this Massey I just thought it would get some attention if I titled this subject, in this way. However, I can't find this leak. After about 6 hours of operation, and finishing the job I might add she started breathing in and out at idle like an asmatic in need of their inhaler. So I assumed that the fuel filters needed replacement after 2 years of faithfull use why not? Ever since that fatal frame of mind she won't start and stay running. Fires fine, runs for 5 seconds and shuts down. Pulled her around the yard and I get white smoke all the while. Bleed all I could bleed and still have problems. Fuel coming out of all fuel lines even the return. Unfortunately for me leaking air doesn't mean leaking fuel. Any suggestions out there on how I might find this leak? Thanks in advance, wendy

All the below suggestions are great. One more thing to check would be on the right hand saddle tank(the one the fuel line comes out of). On the bottom of the tank remove the the check valve or strainer depending on what vintage 1100 you have. I think you ues a 15/16" wrench to remove it. Clean it up and re-install. If you have the check valve style becareful not to damage the O-ring when reassembling.

Hi, yes I listened also and I guess I"m dating myself quite a bit here by saying that I actually remember that song. Anyway, it was fun to hear it again and it"s all true. But let me just say that I ALSO HAVE SEVERAL GREEN MACHINES here on the farm and they all live right beside one another and get along really well. Each one has its own soul and perform to perfection when they feel up to it. In fact, since old red is down all my "others" have risen to their level best just to allow me the time to give red the attention deserved. So, I Love "em all!

I have run into 2 things that could cause the problem you are having. One is a cracked diaphagm in the fuel transfer pump, and the other is a nearly invisible crack in the fuel filter housing.

Hi Wendy, we are here to help!
Firstly the white smoke my be due to excessive cranking....the equivalent of 'flooding' a petrol engine. Restart at the tank. Not sure about the 1100 but there may be a filter in the tank which has to be checked. Disconnect the pipe at the tank and check for flow. Follow the lines to the filters. Check that all sealing rings, 2 large and one small plus the very small one on the bolt are all fitted correctly. Remove the outlet pipe from the lift pump and operate the lever by hand. You should have a good gush of air free fuel. Open the bleed screw on top of the filter and pump fuel through. Close the screw when free of air. On the side of the main pump you will see two 1/4unf screws which appear to be screwed into nuts. These are the vent screws for the pump. Slacken both and pump fuel through. The output should be anything between a strong trickle and a jet (stand back). Close when free of air. Follow the injector pipes up to the injectors and slacken two of the pipe nuts. Turn the engine over and you should see fuel spitting out. Close the nuts. Have you checked the air filter? Inside the front grill you will see a round housing with clips holding the bottom bowl in place. You should have this type fitted. Carefully remove the bowl. The filter section may come off with it or it can be removed after. If it is blocked it can be cleaned by removing the big ring and pouring a little petrol on the debris and carefully setting fire to it. Use a taper or something to light it. It will not harm the filter. The dry debris can be blown or shaken out when cool. Check the oil level and sediment in the bowl. Follow the air filter hose to the engine to make sure that there are no collapsed pipes or blockages.
When reassembled hopefully it will now start. Depending on the amount of hours and general condition of the engine it is not uncommon to have to tow to start for the first time after disturbing the fuel system. You achieve a slightly higher cranking speed than the starter is capable of.
Please let us know how you get on.
Cheers

David, The 1100 has a dry air filter, not an oil bath.

Boy your not kidding Dry is not the word for it. It took that thing a little while to get going but once it did whew! Naw just kidding. Finding a "taper" now there"s something to think about...I have been working this whole time trying to locate one of those (smile)

I deeply appreciate every bit of advice and encouragement I get from this site and all of the great people who support all of us Do It Yourself"rs. No single one can know it all, No single one can do it all. We are all so fortunate that this opportunity to share what ail"s us, even exists. I"ve yet to tackle the Massey as the not so new...New Holland skid steer came up with a hairline cracked radiator which is taking front and center at the moment. For me this kinda "farmers luck" comes in threes I can"t wait.....

Hello again,
Perhaps 'taper' is an English word that you do not use over there. Trying to find one? Perhaps similar to asking a novice to go to the store and get a new 'bubble' for the spirit level. ;0))
Cheers from this side of the pond.
