285 massey tractor steering

Can any 1 help me please?? I have a 285 massey tractor there is a major oil leak on the hand steering pump located under the steering wheel on the shaft. I am trying to remove it but I am having great difficulty. Is there a trick to it and are there seals in there that I can replace to stop the oil from leaking or does this fix require a new pump???? Please help as I"m a poor farmer without enough money for a mechanic.

I think the 285 is different from my 690. Do you have the Repair manual and the Parts manual? I have both and find I absolutely need them for this kind of repair. The Repair manual shows the steps to take and the Parts manual shows the best detailed exploded views for reasembly. You can get both from MF dealer. Good luck. Tom
