Hey all. My name is Greg & I just found this site. I am the new & proud owner of a Massey-Harris 30. It belonged to my Uncle in westen Manitoba. He owned it for the majority of its life & it has some sort of tubular-armed MH bucket on it. The sheet metal has seen better days but it has all its hydraulics & runs/starts/drives really well. My uncle still clears snow with it. It has been upgraded to an 8 volt battery & I intend on working my property with it in a year or so. I am a city guy, but I am in the military & am used to machinery. I do not think it has a 3 point hitch on it but from what I have read so far, I will need one for a mower, a plow & a cultivator. I am wondering 3 things:

How big a plow, cultivator, mower or otherwise can this tractor pull?

How easy is a 3 point hitch conversion on this tractor?

Is a snowblower attachment availible for a beast such as this?

Do you folks have any tips/reccomdations for a new tractor owner?
Thanks for your replies!

I"m pretty excited to have myself a tractor. I understand the live pto relation to a snowblower - as soon as I push in the clutch to stop the tractor, so does the pto right? If that wont work, it does have a bucket I guess. Where exactly would a man start looking for a 3 point hitch from a 44 & how much am I looking at?

You will have a real problem trying to run a snowblower with that tractor because of the high location of the PTO shaft and the lack of "Live PTO".

Remain scared of that power take-off shaft sticking out the back. With luck it will have a sturdy metal roof over it.

If that shaft is attached to an implement and in gear, think very carefully about how you get on and off the tractor. The 30 has enough power to grind you to a pulp if any part of your clothing gets caught in a turning shaft.

Something handy I had welded onto the top of my draw bar is a piece of steel sized to take a standard ball receiver like the one off the hitch on my truck. This is very handy for trailers and a switch to another receiver without a ball gives a taller hitch height for some implements. The empty steel tube is also a hitching point for a chain.

I have a 30 i use around my place also.
I've been using a 2 bottom trailer plow and I also have a 5 foot pull type brush mower I use with it. It seems to handle both of those with ease. I recently got a 3 point hitch from a 44 that I'm in the process of putting on. If you get one from a 44 it's just a nut and bolt install. As long as your hydraulics are up to the task. Which is my problem I need to rebuild the pump and the cylinder under the seat. Really a great tractor and it's pretty good with gas too.
