I puchased an old 165 a week ago and was out playing today .I used the Diff. lock and cant figure out how to get it to release.I've never had anything with this feature and the book only tells how it is to be adjusted.

make sure the pedal pivit moves freely, try lifting it by hand, may have to use a pry bar. If the tractor has sat outside and the diff lock hasn't seen any use for a while the shaft/pivit will rust and bind.

Thanks for the help guys. I had to pry it up and it seems to be okay .I"m going to look at it a little closer when I get it in the shop to fix the cobbed up bucket.

Push in the clutch or tap one or both of the brake pedals. It should release. My book says to immediately step on the clutch. If it doesn't release maybe the return spring isn't working or it is binding from rust or something. Dave

Diff. lock is spring loaded, so turning tractor in opposite direction will release sleeve [providing foot is off pedal],if it does not do so, then there is another problem[this is what my memory bank recalls]so subjet to correction.
