Can you identify what alternator? typically on most alternators I'm familiar with, there's a battery wire (B, or BAT on alternator) with a heavy wire running from there back to the battery (this will be 8 or 10 gauge wire) or this heavy wire may run from alternator to amp gauge to battery plus. There will also be a field connection usually at the back of the alternator and marked with an F. The external voltage regulator applies a variable voltage to the field connection which makes the alternator charge at the rate required to run the electrical system (and charge the battery when needed). The higher the voltage at the field, the more amps the alternator puts out. If it's of Chrysler design it may have two field connections - one hot (positive) and one grounded back through the voltage regulator (they do it backwards sometimes...) If it says Delco on it and there is no voltage regulator to be found it's an internally regulated unit which wires a little differently but is the easiest to wire. If you can tell me which alternator you're working with I might be able to help.

Bob, thanks for trying to help.
It's a Delco-Remy altenator. 2 wires connect by plug to the top with one (heavy) going to a post on the back. From there I thing it was suppose to go to the AMP gauge. This is where it gets fuzzy. Also in the mix is a ceramic piece with terminals at either end. I believe this was in-line with the other line coming off the altenator.

Do I go from the Amp gauge to the Battery?
