It is a 1980 wonder bundle of fun. no complaints
I was in a field doing some mowing yesterday with my 5 ft bush hog
pasture mower .
This is a easy implement for "Mr Fred" (tractor is named after my
Dad) to run at 70 horse nothing stops it. however the owner left
several thousand feet of old poly water line in the field. light
weight and thought it to be no problem. Mr Fred chewed it right up,
however you could hear the governor really open and the load increase
was substantial . then was a time that the tractor started to stall
and I slipped the clutch in and let it work on the load without
movement. I noticed a sound like slippage in the pto. ( heavy groan).
I finished the job , went home , cleaned up and ran the unit. When I
ran the pto it made the same groan sound when I eased it into gear to
spin it up . it still runs...? Have I weakened the pump or clutchpack?
Which is most probable?
Thanks for any input

Could there be something wrapped around the blades/shaft of the brush cutter where it may be hard to see?

Hi, I agree with Todd, check for anything wrapped around the blades. It is unlokely that you have caused any internal damage unless of course the PTO had been slipping for a long time. Would it not have been better to remove the pipe to start?

I checked the mower carefully all is clear. I used the tractor today with the backhoe and it worked perfect. And yes I wanted the hose removed and the owner didnot want to. I was weak and it will not happen again. I am the one to have to split the tractor. However on a comical note it sure looked funny to see 200 feet of hose comming slitering toward you at about 20mph as its sucked into the mower, and then turn the pasture mower into a giant weed eater :-) lesson learned
