on my MF165 I can turn the steering wheel 3/4 of a turn in each direction before the power steering starts to work. Is there a adjustment to fix this?

Hello Frank,
I'm assuming that you have the same type of steering system as is fitted to UK tractors.
If so, the adjustment of the box is easy. On the right hand side of the box you will see a cover. Roughly in the centre of this is a straight slotted screw with a locknut. Slacken the locknut. Using a jack, take the weight off the front wheels until you can turn the steering freely (with PAS resistance). Turn the screw in 1/4 turn at a time. Roughly in the straight ahead position you will find a 'tight spot' this is correct. Adjust the screw and lock up so that the movement over the tight spot is smooth.. Look for any wear in the steering linkage particularly the adjustable barrel on top of the ram and the vertical shaft and bushes that go through the axle casting. The whole system works by keeping wear and play to a minimum. Power actuation occurs when the ram spool is moved by initial movement of the steering wheel. If you have wear in the linkage that movement will be lost and you will be trying to turn it as a non-PAS tractor.
Cheers
DavidP
