I recently purchased a 1968 model 165 s/n 9A I48582 with a front loader. The hydraulics has a double action auxilary control valve for the lift. I could not get any of the hydraulics to work so I have removed the lift cover and sent it out for repairs. The filter was mostly plugged with what appeared to be grease that pumped into the hydraulic fluid when someone over greased the lift arms. I have the tractor split now as I had a busted fork on the reverse and first gear. I plan to buy a new filter and clean out the pump and housing with diesel fuel. Is there any thing else I should be doing to the pump or any thing else I should check while I have it down this far. Big Dean was a real help with pictures and information. Man what a great guy. My check is in the mail for his CD.

Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

HI Toby,
On the underside of the pump yoy will see an aluminium link between the cam plate and the control valve tube. Examine this very closely for wear or cracks. They are prone to break. Check also the pins that pass through the casing to secure the pump.
Has the hydraulic cover gone to a MF dealer or someone that has the special tools and knowledge to carry out the adjustments on the cover?
Make sure that they have removed and correctly adjusted the load on the control spring and the endfloat adjustment. This is the point where you attach the top link of the 3-point linkage.
When you have the cover refitted there are several adjustments that need to be carried out for the system to work correctly.

Cheers
