Just picked up a Perkins AD4-203 diesel engine from a Massy combine. Complete but not running. How good of a motor where they and can you still get parts for them? Thinking or repowering a skid loader with it?

Thanks for any responses.

From what I've experienced, yes, they are good. Dad has a 1967 Massey 165 with the 203 and 4700 hours. One of my uncles has a 1974 with the same engine and around 2500 hours. My grandfather used them on the farm for over 20 years and had no problems at all, with the engine that is (multi-power has gone out twice on the 67 model).

I looked all over for one of these engines for my MF 40B. I finally just rebuilt the one I had. I had spun a bearing on it. It is running great now but I wouldn't mind having a spare.

They are a little more powerful than the numbers indicate. Pullers running them bone stock have been accused of cheating. How much did you pay for it? Local reseller wants $2000 for the motor alone.

Parts are still easy to get. That engine is a gem. Lots of 165's still on the job with that as power.

The engine is well proven and is the 4 cylinder version of the 3 cylinder that is fitted to the MF 135.

They are a very good engine, we had them in MF 165"s and a 65 industrial. The only quirky thing with a 203 is at a certain r.p.m. they do tend to vibrate a little, (above and below that figure they run as smooth as silk ) Maybe that is one of the reasons why Massey"s went on to use the 212 in that tractor instead.

Is it the engine, or the injector pump set up that made the 65 so 'sharp' to cope with varying loads? Lovely little engine.
