I just inherited a MF 35 from my wife"s uncle. I want to restore this tractor. It was built in 1956 according to the serial number (psgm 171278) The hood is painted red and flaking. Looks like a white color is under the red in several places. Every MF 35 I have ever seen is painted red a grey. Also the hood emblem says Ferguson. Where can I find out what color this tractor is suppose to be? How can you read the serial number to find out what day and month in 1956 the tractor was built?

Thanks in advance for any help

CJ

CJ,

You've got a 1956 Fergusson TO-35 (built in Detroit)

In which case the Beige and Grey colour scheme can be found at:

Link

The confusion on colours arises because the Serial Number ranges for the US-built Fergusson TO tractors overlaps with that for the UK-built Fergusson FE (Red and Grey) tractors - and they were both re-badged Massey-Fergusson MF in the late 1950s after the merger.

Scott

cj can you see any color inside of the hood up around the doglegs and grill also you can take a bright light and look up under the dash. This can give you an idea of the original sheet metal color. Another good place to look is between the seat spring and the top cover for the hydraulic or take a fender bracket off of the axle housing this may give you an idea of the color of the castings. I have a 56 TO35 serial# 170239 and at that time they had already switched to the beige color for the 57 model year. Yours could have been beige on the sheet metal. Post back on the Harry Ferguson board I would like to know what you find out. As far as the month your 35 was built, the only thing you can do is take the engine ser.# and send it to the person that owns the records for Continental Engines. He can tell you what month the engine was assy. and when it was shipped to the Ferguson Plant. Here is the add. for his web site www.montesequipment.com
Hope this helped.

Thanks for the info Rob. I am sure it is the biege color. I have been looking on the internet and everything I find says it is one of the biege tractors. Do you have a pic of your 35? Would love to see it. You can send it to [email protected]. Sounds like I need to be posting on the Ferguson site from here on.

Thanks again

CJ
