I need help on a few questions on this tractor recently acquired.

1) The identify the model (TO32471) of this tractor. The original color seems to be red with gray wheels?

2) Where is the switch, lever or button to engage the starter on this tractor?

It has been converted to 12volt and has 2 terminal solenoid mounted in the case with one wire going to postive battery terminal. The other terminal gowes to a one wire starter. It has an on/off switch on dash and no other switches.

3) What is the fluid capacity of the hydraulics?

4) Recommended oil to use for engine and capacity?

hey xwing...you got yourself a Ferguson 1950 TO-20. to start it you need to turn the switch on, push the shift lever over to the right and forward. if you look close on the case by the shifter where it show the gears, you'll see R, 1, 2, 3, and "S". the start switch is in the gearcase and is activated by the shift lever in the "S" position. hydraulic capacity is 6 gallons of 90 weight mineral OIL (not gear grease). cranckcase holds 6 quarts. the book recommends straight 30 wt. but a good multi-grade oil will work fine. the original color of the TO-20 was all gray. there were a couple different shades of gray for the fergies, so you'll have to check which one was used for your year model. they were all very similar shades tho. i hope this helps you. understand that your tractor is a "ferguson" and not a MASSEY ferguson. you'll find good answers to your questions on this forum, and also the harry ferguson forum, so check with those guys there also.

hey xwing...you forgot to tell me one major detail....did it start?

the TO series of tractors were good solid hard working little guys. low center of gravity so they're stable little guys too. your TO-20, and the TO-30 have the Z120 and Z129 continental engines which are good, basic easy to work on, but have one major flaw. the block between the wet sleeves in these engines are known to crack. the two major reasons for this happening are overheating and freezing, so make sure your cooling system is clean and circulating well, and that you keep that radiator CLEAN!

also keep in mind that your TO-20 does not have live PTO, so when using an implement like a bush-hog, make sure you have a PTO overriding clutch attached to your PTO shaft. if you are unfamiliar with this item, make sure you find out about it before you try bush-hoggin' with it.

as i said before, you will find a lot of useful info about YOUR tractor on the harry ferguson forum just below this forum on the forum page. (click "show all forums" ans scroll down til you find it.)
