The dump valve is in the cover that the charge pump is fastened to.There should be a pin that sticks up through the floor plate between your feet with a ring on top.You can pull up on the ring when you are going to start the tractor so the starter is not working against hyd pressure. There is a snap ring on the pin that can wear or the pin can wear allowing the valve to slip down dumping the oil back into the rearend.

The pieces you are describing are the cover & hold down clip for the dump valve. The snap ring may have worn or broke allowing the valve to drop down. When you take the pump off, check to see if it dropped down. It will be in one of the holes that the orings seal against.

There should be a snap ring groove in the stem of the valve, and at the top there should be a hole for a ring.On the top side of the cover there should be a special washer that the snap ring should sit in when the vavle is down.[Pump position.]To send oil back to sump to aid the starting of the tractor you would pull up on the ring which would be just above the platform between your feet. When the tractor starts you can push the valve down for the oil to go to the radial pump up front. If the snap ring, which looks like piece of wire, does not stay in it's groove, the valve will drop down to far and open up to sump. You may have to replace the vavle, snap ring &washer to fix it.

Check your dump valve to make sure it is closeing properly. Also check the seal under the pump. [between the pump & suction tube]I have also seen the key under the rotor in the pump wear out so the rotor will not turn. Good luck. Question for barnrat, Where can you get the charge pump for $850. I have not found them for less than $1200.

I buy a lot of parts and work on a lot of Masseys. Mabie brothers in Kirkville NY gets most of my Massey parts business. I cant remember what they wanted for the pump but it was considerbly less then $1200. The $850 pump is available from Wengers of Meyerstown PA.

First off new charge pump is $850 and no rebuild to it. Second before you go spend that kind of money check the condition of the O rings on top of the pump they can fail if the filter plugs. Also was the 2 gpm the combined volume of both pumps or what you got at each pump?

Id try the O rings first. 2gpm seems low even for a whipped pump. I think there may be more there then meets the eye. Good luck, double and triple check everything before you blow the money on that pump.
