What is the difference between a "regular old" 44 Massey on LP versus the LP Special version??

Thanks,
Howard

The model 44 and 44 special used the same engine in the LP models the following are the specs for the engine. [Continental]Model H260;Cylinders:four:Bore3-7/8 inches;Stroke5-1/2 inches;Displacement:260 cubic inches;Compression ratio:8.7 to 1,Firing order:1,3,4,2;Pounds compression cranking speed:108 to 190 pounds. The main differences were in the tractor itself.Longer u-frame,cast hubs on the front axle, rear wheels mounted with pinch type clamps, bigger feul tank, different upper steering shaft assembly, different platform, different seat mount, bigger front tires. The 444-LP used the H-277 model engine.

Actually the 44 Special LP version, (if it is truly a factory equipped model, should have a "B" in the first letter of the serial number after the '44', like 44BIRF), also used the Continental 260 engine and not the gasoline version's 277.

Thanks for the info!

Would a true LP Special be worth much more than a regular LP 44??

I've mainly read up on JD's and MM's since they are more common out here, but have a couple of Massey Harris's and really like them...

The difference should be the displacement. 260 vs. 277 cu in.
