Removed rear wheel hub on a M-H 744D to-day, made 3 pullers before I got one strong enough to last. On the last one I used an 18"dia x 5/8"thick plate and an 1,1/2"dia bolt & nut.The nut was welded to the drilled plate, then 2 flat bars 2,1/2"x1/2x12" were welded edge on across the plate & to the top of the nut.The puller was secured to the hub by 2, 3/4"bolts, using the tapped holes provided. The 1.1/2" bolt was tightened using Stillsons &pipe,.(4.5ft total lenght). Thanks for you replies to my question.

There is a tapered pin that is in the hub. I drilled out the pin so the key would not come out with the hub, The pin goes through the hub and into the key on the shaft. I made a puller out of a piece of 1" steel, drilled the bolt pattern from the hub into the steel plate and drilled and tapped a 1" fine thread hole in the center, really saved alot of pounding.

WR, I just removed on off my 44 yesterday, get the bolts out, and then knock off the cap on one side. Then I took a power wirewheel and polished up any exposed shaft. Then I heated the hub where the key is on both ends, as I took a 4x4 oak block and started to hit i back and forth. after about 10 hard blows, (that is why i use wood not to bust the hub) it started to move, and as it moved I would clean and lub the shaft. Hammer it off and then hammer it one, as you clean an lub and hten it is off. Hope it helps.

Hi, Have done some many years ago. Soak-soak for
days with favorite chemical. Heat hot as possible,
with bolts loosened and drive inward with a heavy
mall or the best is to drive in with something
like another heavy axle shaft. After lots of "blows" it will start to move. Drive in till it
loosens a bit before you clean up the shaft and
go outward and remove. Cheaper than lifting wts.
at the health club. Good luck, Chuck
