MF 135 Restoration

I recently bought a MF 135 that is pretty much worn out. Cosmetic stuff such as tires, paint and cleaning was all that received attention before I bought it. Everything seems to work OK, except the engine (diesel) and lift. The lift is slow and shakes. The engine doesn't maintain oil pressure after it warms up. Either fuel or hydraulic fluid is getting into the engine oil, about a pint per hour of use. I replaced the fuel lift pump with no results.

If anyone could offer any advice as to where I should start, I sure would appreciate it. Things like what kind of jacks are required to lift the engine, split the body of the tractor, where to buy parts, etc. and special tools needed would be helpful.

Or, if anyone could recommend books, videos, etc., that I might use, I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

I "did" my MF-135 Perkins gas a few years ago. Same engine, different head and stuff. I used a regular full-sized floor jack to split it, with a small overhead hoist for the engine. I'd highly recommend you get Big Dean's Massey Ferguson CD. It was a tremendous help for me, and I've worked on tractors most of my life.

Fuel in the engine oil con only come from either the lift pump, injector pump or a broken or leaking injector. This case sounds like the injector pump shaft seal. You must take the pump to a diesel shop for test and repair. Also check that the small hole in the banjo bolt on the leakoff pipe between the filter and tank is clear
as this controls the back pressure.

The hyd pump has four chambers and spring loaded valves. If one or more chambers is not working, then the lift will shake. A pump rebuild is fairly straighforward and the parts are reasonable. As far a the oil contamination problem, I would suspect fuel as the hyd fluid is on the far side of a dry clutch and would be running out by the gallon prior to getting to the engine oil. Broken rings might cause the fuel to bypass instead of ignite but this would be noteable by the miss. I would supect a pump leak, but am not familiar with the diesel.

Manuals on this site are of okay quality and reasonable price. Parts from this site are excellent quality and will arrive a heck of alot sooner than you would suspect. 44 hours for an entire engine kit. HTH

Sounds like you the kind of guy that wants to "do it right". First step is to get manuals. Get real MF manuals from MF dealer: 1-Operator Manual,2-Repair Manual, 3-Parts Manual. These will pay for themselves over the long run. Tom
