My 47 44 will only engage 1st gear about 1 inch and then will not stay in gear under any load. All other gears work well. Any thoughts? Thanks Mark

I recall something about a design defect in 44's and Specials with the Ist gear popping out under load. I think dealers were fixing the problem, but that was 50 years ago. Not sure what can be done now.

Pull the top off.Take a look. Could be rusty gears.
