When I use my 1130 PTO it sounds as if a tooth is broken off on the gear close to the outside shaft. It goes click, click etc.and then this morning the pto won't turn until I turned it backwards a little bit.I'm not using it until it is fixed,so is it a job that needs special tools, or can it be done at home.(shade tree mechanic!!!!) thanks

BE sure the drive gear is engaged before disassembly or the drive gear could fall if driveshaft comes out with the housing

Not sure what your problem could be as there are several gears and bearings in the pto housing. It is a 2 speed araingemnet for 540 & 1000 rpm so there gears for both. There is also a needle bearing package that separates the two output shafts that will scatters as you disassemble is on the bench. A worst case scenerio is to remove it and you can't get it back together, just about anyone can do it with a book. Start by draining the tranny oil, swing away all the 3 point arms and romove the 6 one inch bolts holding the upper link spring plates. Remove all the bolts holding pto housing on and pull unit straight out. It is easiest when you use some 8 inch or so long studs to keep even when pulling out as the long pto input shaft from the clucth may wish to come out too. Keep it in if you can and the unit will come out. It is very heavy and you will want two people and/or a cherry picker. Disasemmble it on a bench and keep notes of how it goes back together and examine all parts. Rebuild with new seals and gasket, reinstall and fill with new oil. It has been about 25 years since I've done one, but we used to do quit a bit as the 1000 shaft would pull out on the early models when the coupler shaft you were hooked to slide hard in and out at the tongue area. It would pull the ends off of the shaft where the snap ring went. We would repack the needle bearings with grease to hold them in during reassembly and then weld the snap ring on. Fixed great until you needed work done again and then we replaced it with the bolt in retainer type new style output shaft. Really not too bad of an overall job for someone mechanically inclined. Write back, I'm sure others have ideas too.
