I am new to this board being a Farmall collector, but I am looking at a 1975 Massey Ferguson 35 upcoming at an auction. It is a turf tractor but don't know much of anything about it. The hood says 35 DI TAFE. Is this tractor a diesel? What do the rest of the letters mean? What is the reputation of this tractor? Tractor has 1346 hours on it, says it has a 4 & 2 spd., and looks good from the photos. I would think it would be worth at least $4000. What would you guys think? I would like to use it for large acreage mowing. It also comes with a loader, an Allied 394. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

I believe the tractor your talking about is a unit built in India, under license from MF. TAFE is the name used, the engine is probably a Simpson, built under license from Perkins. Basically the same tractor as the MF35/135

Hi, I think that Jim is correct in what he says. The TAFE range was introduces as a cheaper alternative to 'proper' MF tractors. Be wary of the parts supply. I believe that very little is interchangeable principally due to the fact that MF 35's use UNF/UNC thread system and TAFE use metric.
