I'm rebuilding my Perkins Diesel on my MF65. I think I've got an A4-203 with the indirect injection. The Number cast on the block is 0280095X. I think the AD4-204 engines started a little bit later. Does anyone have more specific information on which engines go with which serial numbers?

Speaking of which, can anyone illuminate me on the difference between these two engines. I know the later engine came in indirect and direct injection models. How can I be sure which I've got now that I've got this thing apart.

It is very easy to find out if it is a 203 or a 192 engine. Just measure the bore, the 203 has a 3.6" in bore like the 152 engine in the MF 35 and 135, and the 192 has a 3.5" bore like the 144 engine.

I sent you an e-mail. Perkins has used several different methods of engine identification.

Well now I'm thinking I sent the wrong number. The only number I can find is the one cast into the block, and I don't seem to see one stamped anywhere. Is the stamped number large or small, because I've got the block completely stripped and I still don't see anything. This is a 1960 tractor (SN 679378) with what looks like a stock a4-203 engine with vertical injectors and flat topped pistons. I don't have any indication this might be a British machine (which would make it a 192), but I still wish I could nail the engine SN to be sure.

If you have flat top pistons it is not direct injection. I was involved in another matter and I did look. Your engine number is stamped one of two places and it is the old method of Perkins engine identification. Send me a U. S. mail address and I can snail mail you a copy of that information. J.
