I am looking to buy a Massey-Furguson 165 that has recently been rebuilt. It looks good and everything works well. It was built in the 70's I was told. It even has a hydraulic takeoff installed.

What would be a good (far) price for this tractor. Is $7500.00 to much to pay.

Thanks for your help.

Leonard

Avg auction price $4701, high $7200,low $2000. Rebuilding is expensive, I just payed $900 for rear tires (includes tire, tubes, and fluid. I also spent about $600 for a clutch and input PTO shaft parts. Buy a cheap pressure guage and make sure the hyudralic pressure comes up to 2500-3000 lbs. If it has multipower make sure it works and is not leaking, look for oil coming out of the weep hole in the area under the clutch. (parts big bucks) Bill

What's the extent of the rebuild ?

If the tractor has been gone through completely.. i.e. engine, trans, clutches, axles, brakes, hydraulics, electrics... good tires... it's probably not too much... you've essentially got a 'new' tractor that should be good for another 30 years.

If the engine's been rebuilt and the rest cleaned and painted.. well... that's a different story and $7,500 might be a bit high.

What are the total hours showing on the meter ?

I'd expect the perkins 4 cylinder diesel to go at least 5,000 hours before a rebuild if it was cared for... That means the rest of the tractor has some hours too.
