I am getting power steering fluid in crankcase. Is this becasue I used power steering fluid instead of ATF? Any hints on replacing seals or good source for a rebuild? I wouldn't mind using my local MF dealer-but their parts comp. for MF has been down all week and I can't wait much longer.

You should use Perma-Tran or equivalent for the power steering, don"t use ATF. If you can get the old seal out without damaging the number you should be able to get an aftermaket one to replace it. Are you sure that the excess fluid is P.S. fluid? Your lift pump, if a diesel, could be leaking diesel into the crankcase.

Power steering was running "out" and oil level is high in crankcase.
Is there a trick to getting the old seal out?

Yep, that pretty much means the seal is leaking. My steering fluid leaks at the cylinder seal, but expected at 4100+ hours. As David P. said, "be careful". I would also consider changing dealers, that"s a lame excuse for no parts help.

Hi,
There will probably be a circlip in front of the seal. Remove this and carefully prise the seal out squarely.

Hi Mike,
Changing seals is generally easy. I believe that there is more than one type of pump fitted. Take care not to scratch the shaft in removing the old one and ensure that you use a guide of the right size to fit the new. There is a good chance that a seal will cure your problem but don't take it as definate.
David
