I'm just kinda curious what year our 285 is. Serial number 9A298054. My dad just found the original sales receipt showing that he bought it used September 26, 1980 for $17,900. I guess it was a rental/demo unit at the time with about 2-300 hours on it.

My guess would be that it's probably a '79, based on the sales date and the hours.

Thanks- It was just one of those questions that finally got the best of me and I just had to know. He rented another 285 when the 1600 broke down, think he said it was the pto clutch, and he liked the 285 so much he bought one.

I forget- what year did they start making the 285's?

Some time I'll have to get the serial number off the other 3 tractors and figure those out too. We've got a 165 w/ continental, and a 1755 (dead for now) and 1855 Oliver that I'm not sure on. The 1600 is a 63.

Wouldn't ya know it-- My dad just told me today that he is gonna have the dealer give it a major overhaul before the feild work starts. It's got about 6100 hours and it just aint as strong as it should be...

Has a few other problems that an overhaul should fix too....
