Have a 68 MF 135 gas that the instrument lights work part time. Cut on the lights one time and they work next time they may or may not. When they do not come on if I take a test lamp and touch the probe to the terminal on one of the gauges no light in t3est lamp but when I remove it the supply starts humming and the light come on. Cleaned connections and no change. All instruments do light when they work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Any one know how much a new power supply would cost?

Thanks,
Tom

If the instrument light system is original
the gauge illumination is a sort of neon light
which is powered by an inverter 100 volt ~ power supply (the little black box below the light switch behind the dash). It is possible that the oscillator in the supply does not start each time you put lights on if it is the defect you have to put lights off and on again until it works.

Long time I searched this particular power inverter for my 135 but dealers said no longer availble.

When you put the test lamp you short the 100 volt supply it may be damaged because the light bulb has too low resistance if you touch the terminal accidentaly with your finger you will feeeee l the difference. If you have a multimeter
you can measure this voltage on the 150 VAC scale.

The dash of my 2135 (gas) has a (~2") hole in it directly above the steering wheel. Is that the appropriate hole for the dash light? If the original light is unavailable, what's a good replacement?

Few years ago..On my 135 I installed two little lamp supports used on older MF-50 or MF-65 I had the chance that my MF dealer had two in stock...so I intalled the two in order to have a good night vision to the
instruments.

Honestly I do'nt know if these supports are still
avalable from MF dealers..may be available at tractor boneyards....by chance ?

A surface mount license plate light works. Not like the ones in bumper but one with a houseing for the lamp with a slot in the side. Some tractors used something like that from the factory. The fender lights on my tractors light up the dash enough for me so I've not tried to keep the MF-135 power supply working.
