5 Times The Toe-In?

The owner's manual for my MH 444 says the toe-in of the front wheels on the standard model should be about 3/8"; that is, the distance between the front wheels when measured at the rear should be 3/8" greater than at the front. But it doesn't say what it should be for my model, which is the high arch.

Assuming that the toe-in should be the same as the standard, I turned the turnbuckle on the tie rod the maximum amount, and the best I could get was 1 and 7/8" toe-in. But this is 5 times the recommended toe-in for the standard model. Is this something to be concerned with?

I then moved the tie rod over 1 notch (2") and turned the turnbuckle the maximum amount in the opposite direction. The best I could get was 1 and 3/8" toe-out. Is 1 and 3/8" toe-out better than 1 and 7/8" toe-in?

I wanted to move the steering arm over, but I can't lift it off. I hit it with a sledge hammer, but it won't come off. I can wiggle it horizontally, but can't raise it vertically. Maybe I should buy a gear puller and try that.

john...sounds to me like you have a distorted key or keyway, or the key itself is frozen in your steering arm or steering spindle. if the arm will move around but not come off, it's the only thing i can think of that might be holding it on. what are you beating on with the hammer? you might actually be making things worse. can you drive a wedge-like something between the axle and steering arm like you would with a tie rod end fork? this also could have something to do with why your toe in is so far out...that key might be rolled over in there if your spindle is worn alot. these are only my "guesses", hope they help.
