i bought a massey 35x with a 3 cylinder perkins.
it was losing power and the guy shut it off to cool down, when he tried to restart, it had seized.
i got the head off and tried the block and hammer on the pistons, nothing..
i pulled the access cover from bottom and crank and everything look in place, nothing broken.
i figure the rings are really seized or the crank bearings seized, is there any way to test these seperately without completely pulling engine apart?
any help much appreciated.

Hi,With the acess plate removed and possibly the oil pipe you may just be able to reach the con-rod caps. If they are free you should be able to move them a vey small amount back and forth. Either remove the belly plate or starter and try to move the crank (flywheel) a small amount back and forth. If it is solid, that suggests a main or if you have a little movement then it is probably a big-end bearing. Is the oil clean? If so this suggests that fresh oil has been added after the damage was done. If it's a bearing it's likely to be the rear main or number 3 rod as they are furthest from the pump and will suffer first.

Remove the rod caps one at a time, and you should be able to push the pistons up in the cylinders by hand. If all 3 move, time to pull the crank and check bearings. Sounds like a bearing to me. But, I could be wrong.
