I just acquired a 1951(?) Massey Harris 44. I have started to scrape off decades of grease to fine serial number plate to varify what year it was made and then hopefully where it was manufactured. Does the 44 indicate horsepower? Any history on the 44 would be helpful as I start to locate manuals and parts catelogs. I just posted a picture, on this web site, of my restored 52 Farmall Super A that I am quite proud of. Hopefully this 44 will look like it some day. Thanks for your help, Pete from Oregon.

good luck!! I have a 1951 44 gas that I rebuilt and when it gets warm will get its new paint job. It has a factory wide front is a row crop but has the cast rear wheels, power steering (add on)!! Also have a 1949 massey harris pony to be painted at the same time!! My father had a 44 massey harris and was a grand old tractor. I also have a 1949 44 that is purchased for parts!!

It sounds like you are surrounded by 44's. I hope you have as much fun tinkering with old tractors as I do.
