You are asking about Massey Harris tractors, not Massey Ferguson.

Continental engines for those tractors came from different series of flat head engines.

The pony had a N62 engine. (62 cubic inch engine)
The pacer had a Y91 engine (91 cu. in.)
The 20 and 21 had a F 124 engine (124 cu. in.)
The 22 and 23 had a F 140 engine (140 cu. in.)
The 30 had a F 162 engine (162 cu. in.)
The 33 and 333 had a 201 valve in head engine.
The 44-6 had a F226 engine ( 226 cu. in.)
The 44 (4) had a 260 cu. in. valve in head engine.
The 44 special and 444 had a 277 cu. in. valve in head engine.

Very good question. Supposedly it is the engine model then the size.

IE Z120, Z129, Z134, Z145, G155, G176

G176 is supposed to be a 176 cube engine. But it ain't. If you calculate out my bore and stroke, you get 192 cubes. I haven't figured it out yet.
