How do I get the PTO to engage (other than the ground speed). I'm trying this one out. When I try to push the PTO lever back past neutral, it only grinds, and I do have the clutch pedal pushed all the way down. I've gotten the brush hog to work in High gear, speed 2, but in any speed lower, it doesn't cut (since I can only get the PTO to engage for ground speed.) HELP!!!

Not familiar with the 180, but on my 135 the hydraulic filter assembly came off and got in the way of the pto shift lever inside. it also caused me to have to overhaul the hydraulic system. It would shift into ground speed ok but not normal speed. Just a possibility. Good luck-JIM

your pto clutch is stuck or out of adj. the disk will sometimes fuse to the pressure plate if left sitting to long. the pto should go in while the tractor is not running. start the tractor and bring the pto up to speed. then press the clutch if the pto stops it is only an adj. if it keeps going it is stuck, try depressing cluch under heavy load (in brush etc. a rototiller works great for this) it should break free. also if you are tring to engage pto at high rpm try at idle mine grinds if i'm above about 1000 rpm. good luck.

It sounds like your PTO clutch is worn out. I'm not familiar with an adjustment for the PTO clutch, so your only option may be to replace the PTO clutch.

Why would the PTO engage for the ground speed setting but not at the "live" setting?

because you are not moving when engaging the ground speed setting. your main traction clutch is what is wore out or out of adjustment. When this happens you are not depressing the pto clutch far enough to disengage the live clutch. but it disengages the traction clutch . That is one of the problems with a double duty clutch.
