I have a 1963 mf 35 with a perkins diesel. My problem is when its cold out and i try to start it if it doesn"t start the starter keeps turning over till I pull off the battery lead.I changed the ignition and put a new starter solinod on but it still does the same thing any ideas? ps it has a positive ground system.

You might try pulling the solonoid off the starter and make sure the piston is not covered in goop. The inside of the solonoid and the activation piston should both be clean and dry. Disconnect the battery and wires, take out the two mounting screws, give the solonoid a twist. Also, you could pull the plastic end cap off the solonoid and check the contacts. You can get a solonoid rebuild kit to repair that. The NAPA Echlin number used to be STK-15.

Hi,
Test your starter by holding a cable to the battery lead and to the activating terminal on the solenoid. If it continues after release you have a starter problem possibly the pinion is sticking on the armature. If your starter is OK rig up a test lamp or volt meter and check the supply going to the solenoid. Check the key switch operation. Your key may be sticking in ST.
