I have a 1970 MF 135 with the Perkins 3 cylinder motor - I would like to change the plug wires - do I need special wires or can I go to the local auto parts store and get 'generic'? I've read on the forum that some people seem to recommend solid copper wires and others say the carbon wires are ok. Thanks for any help.

Carbon wire will do nothing but give you trouble. Find Steve at B&B in NJ or a local marine engine shop and get copper wires. Maybe a local auto racing engine shop.

I bot all the parts and meant to change cap/rotor 4 years ago, got kinda busy and parts are still in the box, tractor is running just fine with those old parts still on

you could check resistance of your old wires, zero means copper, couple thousands means resistor, lots of thousands means bad resistors

replace with whatever type you have on there

I keep thinking about maybe putting a Pertonix ignition on but MF135 keeps starting/running fine with points
