I'm looking at MF 1135 that has leak somewhere in brake system. It was dark when I was at it so didn't see where the leak is but I'm was wondering if its possible that the it leaks inside the rear axle housings where the cylinders are? That would be big job to get there instead of just repairing the master cylinder...
Brakes work for couple of days if you bleed them. Both brakes are missing at the same time if that matters.

Hi, we have a Massey 1135 which had weak brakes as you mention in your post. I would start with the rebuilding of the master cylinder first...it probably needs rebuilt anyway and is alot easier to address first than start ripping the axles off!! Massey had a recall on the brake discs when these tractors came out...the first tractors had a thin brake disc that would crack and break the centers out so something to check out, newer design had a reenforced center hub on the disc...might want to check that out if you dig into the rearend. These tractors use the same oil for both hydraulics, brakes and rearend lubrication so oil contamination through the years works on all the o-rings and tears them up so that is probably your problem?? Have to remember these tractors are over 30 years old...rubber o-rings and seals don't last forever!!! Good luck and feel free to ask me more question if need be....we love our 1135 and its been a great tractor...pulled a 16 row JD 7000 planter for 10+ years....real workhorse!!!

Thanks for your reply. This is a late 1975 model so I guess it has those newer disks? And only 3500-4000 hours on it.
I'm really not too familiar with these 1135s so did I understand right that these use hydraulic oil as brake fluid?
And one more question: how noisy the transmission is usually in these models? This one has some noise but not much (I think). Same on every gear and MP high/low. Rear end??

Tractor sounds like its a nice one, yes your correct...these tractors use the hydraulic fluid for steering, hydraulics, brakes, and all rearend lubrication. If the front hydraulic filter hasn't been changed in correct service intervals then that could lead to premature brake failure....just guessing but good possibility??? The hydraulic filter is located in behind the bottom lower front grille on tractors front end. Tractors weren't terribly noise but do remember that this tractor isn't new, all the noise deadening material is probably shot, I've had to re insulate the firewall and under the cab too. Alot of the noise comes from under the cab, thats where the hydraulic charging pump is located which is quite noisy, a good replacement floormat and some insulating will quiet it up good. As far as the noise your hearing I can't tell you if its right or wrong without hearing it, these tractor do have certain noises characteristic to them, the multi-power will whine when engaged into Hi range. Make sure the multi-power is snappy when shifted to hi...should jerk you, a gummy sluggish one is not good. We bought our 1135 new in 1975 and have used it alot and pulled it quite hard through the years and have never had to open up the rearend of that tractor. Ours has 7000+ hours on it now and until last spring we never touched the multipower....final wore out the friction discs. Our only headache we have right now with ours is head gaskets, can't seem get one to hold so I would take a look in the radiator for oil and run it up to temperature and watch your radiator overflow, if it belches out water then walk away!!! Personnaly I'd look for a 1155 with the 540 Perkins V8. We have one we bought new in 1973 with 12,000hrs on it. Have NEVER had that engine apart, only thing replaced on it has been 1st gear in the tranny(pulling gear in 8spd tranny)we replaced it twice cause we wore it out!!!! Other than the 354 Perkins in the 1135 that tractor was probably the most popular tractor massey made of that time. Sorry if I've rambled on but I have a lot of knowledge and experience with these tractors!!!....pretty much used a massey 1135 and 1155 steering wheel as a teething ring!!! Take care Good luck
