Yellow color on a Massey-Harris

I recently restored a Massey Harris 22 and I used the paint codes previously listed on this site. I thought the tractor turned out very nice but the Yellow on the wheels seems like a very toned down Yellow, almost like a blueish/green tone of yellow. What I used was a Centari paint but don't recall the code off hand. Although I think it is nice looking, it doesn't match the yellow on the Decals I got. Is this normal for a more toned down Yellow as I mentioned? In looking at some of the pictures shown on this site of Masseys it seems they too are a toned down yellow--not like the Bright yellow of a John Deere. I would appreciate some comments on this color used. Thanks.

I just repainted my Pacer and fretted over this yellow business. I'm glad everyone has as much trouble as I did in trying to describe Massey yellow. What I finally did was more or less give up and bought the industrial yellow at the MF dealer. What happened was on a Saturday I ran out of the industrial (aerosol cans) yellow after the first coat on both sides with a finish coat on the outside of the wheels. I was too impatient to wait for Monday to finish so I went to the hardware store and bought a couple cans of Tremclad yellow to finish the insides of the wheels (at about half the price of the industrial). Result? The insides of the wheels are almost a perfect Massey yellow! I confess I like the two-tone effect and my tractor is for use not show. But next time I'll just go with the Tremclad.

A friend of mine here in Canada owned about 15 Massey's, all nicely restored and he was a bit of an 'expert' on them so to speak. Anyways, when I was restoring my first one, he told me that he used Tremclad Yellow. Up here in Canada, Tremclad is a common, everyday rust paint that is available almost everywhere, not up to the standards of an automotive grade paint, more like a regular machinery enamel. Mind you, it's a lot cheaper too. My friend told me that Tremclad Yellow was dead-on for the correct Massey Harris Yellow. I used a lighter yellow on one of my Masseys and I don't think it looks as good. I'm not sure if Tremclad is available in the states, or if you're interested in using that type of paint. It certainly worked out well for me.

The Yellow should be dark, almost with an orange tinge; but not quite. It is definitely darker than John Deere Yellow. The decals are usually a slightly lighter yellow than the paint used on the wheels. However, when viewed from a distance; they look darker set against the red paint.

The correct color is lighter than John Deere yellow. it is a more toned down yellow, almost a creme color yellow. NAPA auto parts stores have the color codes for MH, and when I painted my dad's 44, It turned out just like I remembered it looking when it rolled off the Massey Dealer's truck when I was a kid.
